A Spanish Escape

I thought I would put together a photo diary of my recent trip to the South of Spain. These are, in my opinion, my favourite blog posts to read as well as put together and because this was a very relaxing and also incredibly picturesque trip, the opportunity for photography was endless.

Disappointing Products

DSC_1545DSC_1566DSC_1557DSC_1576DSC_1580DSC_0010DSC_1596DSC_1562DSC_0014

First of all, I’m so sorry for not posting in like a month but I hope you can understand because as I’m typing this my first GCSE is tomorrow, so unfortunately I’ve been a little pre-occupied and blogging has fallen to the bottom of my to do list. Although somehow in between my continuous hours of revision I’ve finally managed to take some pictures and put together a blog post.

So I hope you enjoy and within a month all of my exams will be over, summer holidays will have started which means a lot more content coming your way very soon.So for today’s post I thought I would talk about some products I was disappointed with and regret buying. The first is the Collection Fast Stroke liquid eyeliner – I had heard great things about this but when I tried it I just found that it was really tricky to get a thin, crisp line and when the black liquid dried it was left looking patchy and half-faded.

The second product is the Benefit Bad Gal mascara which before receiving as a gift I had never heard of but now I see why. It pretty much doesn’t show up on my lashes at all, it adds a little length but apart from this – nothing! The next item is the Yes To Grapefruit Correcting Eye Cream – this claims to correct dark circles over time which is a big statement to make which it definitely doesn’t live up to. It’s made not change on my eye area and also makes my eyes over sensitive so I won’t be repurchasing this.

Next is the H&M sponge. This was the first kind of face-sponge I had used and It was terrible! It didn’t expand when damp and stayed solid when trying to blend it foundation leaving my makeup patchy and streaky. Another product I’m not a fan of is the Benefit BeneTint Cheek Stain. The concept of these are interesting but are really hard to blend and look too patchy.

The last two products are both concealers. The first is the Topshop Brighten stick. I had high expectations for this and when I apply it to my under eyes the colour is pink-toned and looked promising but when blended in, it disappears into nothing! Also another promising product was the Mayebelline Eraser Eye Concealer as I had heard loads of great reviews but for me I find it too orange, thick and hard to blend.

Sorry for the pretty negative post, but hopefully it will save you some money!

Celebrity Style Steals 2

A few weeks ago, I did a Celebrity Style Steals post about Kendall Jenner  – who in my opinion is the better dressed of the two – but of course Kylie Jenner still wears some amazing clothes so I’ve picked a few of my favourite outfits of hers ranging from some more dressed-up looks to some more casual everyday ones as well and I’ve tried to re-create them the best that I can from some well known high street shops.

Wardrobe Staples

I’m really sorry about the lack of posts recently, work has just been piling up and with my GCSE’s less than a month away I’m pretty stressed and overflown with revision but I’m trying my hardest to put out some posts for you all. So sorry this one is a little late but I hope you understand!

So I want to start doing more fashion-related posts here on my blog because I’m actually more passionate about clothes than I am about makeup (believe it or not) but I haven’t been sure of how to incorporate this into my blog. So to kick things off, I’ve taken some photos of my favourite items in my wardrobe to show you, in my opinion, 5 items that are essential and must-haves in every girl’s wardrobe.

1. Casual Jumpers

These are perfect for any occasion; they’re super comfy and look great. I especially love them to act as the base for an outfit where I can layer different patterns and textures on top like scarves, jumpers and jackets to create a composition of different patterns and colours. The jumpers I’ve photographed below are actually all from H&M from their ‘Divided’ range (which is amazing by the way). This is a great shop for relatively affordable clothes that are still great quality and really nice!

2. Comfy T-Shirts

So this is quite an obvious one but instead of just the usual white tee, I love wearing band t-shirts or t-shirts with some kind of subtle design on the front. These are just crucial for any easy outfit to throw on a pair of jeans with and look presentable. The tops I’ve shown below are a Lynyrd Skynyrd top that I love and a Grateful Dead t-shirt which are both from Topshop. They supply a brand called ‘And Finally’ which sell lots of great t-shirts.

3. Shirts

My next wardrobe staple are shirts. I think that shirts are incredibly versatile so just having one is probably enough: you can buy them oversized and wear them open or tied around you waist over jeans or shorts. You can wear them done up, over skirts or over dresses. For this reason I think shirts are must-have for all year round. The shirts featured below are all quite different; the first one is from New Look which I like to wear both done up or open as it is slightly oversized.

The second one is actually from the Mens section of H&M and is a really long oversized shirt that I am in love with – I like to wear this as a sort of jacket over the top of plain t-shirts or jumpers. The last photo is of another shirt from H&M which is actually meant as a dress but because the fabric is quite think I love wearing is as a spring jacket!

4. Scarves!

As I was saying earlier, I love to layer and scarves are essential to recreate this look as well of obviously adding some warmth. But now that we are heading into the warmer months I like to wear thinner scarves to add a pop of colour to an otherwise plain outfit or to add more texture to one-dimensional look. So some of my favourites are featured below from shops like H&M and New Look but all of the well known high street shops have a great selection of scarves.

5. A good pair of Jeans

So I couldn’t write a ‘wardrobe staples’ post without mentioning a good pair of jeans could I? It’s quite an obvious choice as it’s just the basis of every outfit for me. But to change it up a little I’ve featured a photo of my mom jeans from Topshop. These are a looser fit than regular skinnies, are high waisted and taper at the ankle (so aren’t quite as baggy as boyfriend jeans). I really love these to add a twist on an ordinary outfit. They create quite a 90’s vibe and I just think they look great with a cropped jumper or a shirt (like I featured above) loosely tucked in in the front.

Love At First Blush

DSC_1278DSC_1306DSC_1300DSC_1313DSC_1263DSC_1330DSC_1356

About a week ago I purchased the Soap and Glory Love at First Blush. It’s a really pretty illuminating blush that I had been eyeing for a while and finally bought it because I had restraints as it was pretty pricey for a drugstore product at £11 but because it just looked too beautiful I had to pick it up! So I’ve had it for a little over a week and I’ve been wearing non-stop so I decided to write a little review for you.

As you can see from the photos above, it comes in a nice compact with a good, big mirror which is really handy for travelling. Overall I think the packaging is really nice, good quality and looks expensive. The product has a  colour-wheel-type design with a mixture of different pink-toned shades with a few highlighters mixed in as well. The one thing I had my regards about before purchasing this was whether it look like a glitter ball on my face however when I swatched it in the store it wasn’t at all.

It gives off a really pretty pink-sheen to the cheeks and as you can see in the photo above (which does make the colour look slightly more washed out than it is in person) it’s not too pigmented so it is easy to build without looking like a clown! Personally, I’m not a fan of heavy blusher so this is the perfect product for me. Also, as a lover of dewy, fresh looking skin this beautiful product adds a lovely glow and illuminosity to the cheeks which is quite unique in the drugstore; most blushers are either matte or too glittery.

I have just fallen in love with this product and would recommend it to anyone who loves glowy skin and is looking for something to add a luminous, pretty sheen to the cheeks: it’s well worth the money.

Wall Of Frames

DSC_1223DSC_1236DSC_1233DSC_1247DSC_1228DSC_1243DSC_1249DSC_1254

Re-decorating my room has been an ongoing process for the last 3 years in total and I can only just say that I’ve completely finished with the hanging of these beautiful frames I just filled in today that hang above my desk.

I had also decided that I wanted to fill the frames with my own photos instead of someone else’s because I’m trying to improve my photography skills and I wanted it to be personal. So over the past few weeks I’ve slowly printed out different photos that I wanted to put in this beautiful Oliver Bonas piece.

I decided on some photos from my trip to paris last year as well as one from Brighton beach (featured here) and pictures I took recently in Richmond Park of which you can see in this post too. I’m really happy with the overall look of the frames- I love the mix of colours and size of each frame; it looks really unique and rustic which I like.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find these online but I’m pretty sure they would still sell it in store so if you’re thinking of purchasing I’d recommend going into an Oliver Bonas near you to look. If you want an easier way, I’ve found some similar options here and here.

Beauty Wishlist

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I’ve had a terrible cold and haven’t been able to take any pictures for new posts. I’ve also been feeling a little un-inspired too and can’t seem to think of any innovative ideas for you, so if you can think of some blog posts you would like to see, feel free to comment below!

But for today’s post, I still haven’t managed to take any photos so I’m really sorry about that, but it’s been a week since my last upload so I had to share something! Therefore I have decided to share some beauty items I’ve been wanting to purchase recently.

    Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.37.48 Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.41.27Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.38.58Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 00.27.51Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 00.30.09 Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 00.47.44  Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 00.46.17

Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.39.40      Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.39.10   Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 00.00.04 Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 23.39.30

I’ve seen a lot of talk about ‘colour-correcting’ recently and it looks really interesting so I want to try out the NYX Colour Correcting Concealer palette as it comes with a range of colours, is only £10 and to be totally honest it just looks kind of fun to try! The Soap and Glory Kick Ass concealers also look interesting for the same concept.

I’ve also been intrigued by a lot of The Body Shop products because I’ve never really looked into their range before but I took their skin quiz online and have been recommended some of the products above so I’m interested to try them and see if they help my skin.

A lot of the other products I’ve been browsing are from NYX because this is a new brand to Boots so I’m interested to see what their like, they’re quite cheap and look really good! Another product featured is from Topshop which is matte, cool-toned bronzer in a light shade which would be good for my fair skin.

The last product is another one from Soap and Glory and because I love their Archery brow pencil so much I think the brow gel would be really good too! Let me know of any other products you’ve been wanting to try or if you’re intrigued by any of the ones that I’ve featured. How To: Dark Lipstick

DSC_1156DSC_1158DSC_1201DSC_1183DSC_1196DSC_1207DSC_1177DSC_1186DSC_1180

Dark lipstick can be very daunting and frankly kind of scary to wear. And it’s only recently that I’ve found myself being more brave when it comes to lipstick so I thought I would offer a little advice for wearing or choosing a dark lipstick. The first thing I would advise is to start off small and work your way up, meaning to start with a slightly darker lipstick than a nude. My personal favourite that I would recommend is the TopShop Lipstick in Boardroom which is a really nice muted purple-nude shade that’s not too crazy to wear.

Another tip is to keep the rest of your makeup quite subtle and not too bold as strong eye/face makeup paired with a bold lipstick can end up looking a bit too much if you want to wear a really dark vampy lipstick like the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Starrey-Eyed which is a beautiful vampy dark berry-red shade (and one that I love a lot!). So make sure to keep the rest of your makeup simple, I recommend bronzy skin with a glowy base and some highlighter paired with minimal eye makeup and long lashes.

My last few tips are to use a lip liner and when choosing a lipstick swatch the shades on your hands and lips to ensure it will compliment and not contradict your skin tone. A lip liner is a great trick to get a clean, crisp line on your lips if you find that your dark lipsticks tend to smudge or look really messy when you apply your lipstick. If this still doesn’t work try a lip brush for even more precision.

Lastly, its important that your lipstick doesn’t contradict your skin tone as it can end up making your complexion look dull or even a strange colour. For example a lipstick like the Rimmel Lipstick by Kate Nude Collection in no. 48 won’t  suit every skin tone as it is a very particular red-based brown shade and so may look odd on certain people. Therefore it’s important to test lipsticks before you buy them because dark shades are very obvious and so it will be more distinct than a nude if the tone of the lipstick doesn’t suit you.

Top Three Eye Palettes

DSC_1076DSC_1120DSC_1102DSC_1113DSC_1129DSC_1093DSC_1124

For me, eyeshadow is my favourite part of putting my makeup on. I love experimenting with different colours and shades that can completely change the look of an otherwise simple look. Over the past few years, I’ve built up my array of palettes: trying out new ones, picking favourites and discovering new brands to love. So because my assortment of products has become so vast, I decided to share my top three.

The first is a Collection Eyes Uncovered palette. These are really pigmented and great quality; I have the shade ‘Nude’ and it provides the perfect range of brown toned shades perfect for both an everyday look or a smokey eye. It’s also only £3.99! The second palette is the Sleek I-Divine in Storm. This one has a larger range of colours, with a mixture of matte and shimmery, from more vibrant shades of blue and pink (which admittedly I don’t really use) to more natural tones of brown and gold which are so pretty!

The last palette is from MUA in ‘Heaven and Earth’. Similar to the collection one, it only has bronzed, brown shades but for someone who loves these shades this palette is incredible! It offers all the tones of brown you could possibly want and are good quality despite only costing £4, they are however all shimmery.

Fast, Favourite Makeup

DSC_0972DSC_0951DSC_0932DSC_0967DSC_0989DSC_0922DSC_0957DSC_0942DSC_1000

For the times that you need to look put-together but just really can’t be bothered to put makeup on, these makeup products are perfect. I’ve already talked about the Bourjois City Radiance Foundation to death but thats because I love it so much; it’s quick to apply and looks amazing! Another quick product for the face is the Clinique Contour Chubby Stick which is really fast as you just draw it onto your face and blend it in.

The third, fast product is the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper. I’m sure you’ve all heard about this because it was all everyone talked about on youtube a while back. It’s a tinted brow gel that fills in your brows slightly and makes them look fuller and thicker really quickly. For the lips, I recommend the Maybelline Baby Lips. I have the shade ‘Cherry Me’ which I love. It moisturises the lips while adding a hint of colour, so don’t need much maintenance.

Lastly, for the eyes I love the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows. They are cream eyeshadows, really pigmented and come in a range of colours. I have the shades: ‘Creamy Beige’ (which is a matte brown neutral shade, perfect as a base for other eyeshadows) and ‘On and On Bronze’ (which is a shimmery, bronzed, golden brown shade). They can be applied with fingers over the eyelid and will stay all day as they’re super pigmented!
